In general I really liked the idea behind this anime. You know the estranged siblings who slowly develop a relationship that is completely platonic. You know all that kind of stuff. It is nice and touchy feely in a way. However, you can easily ruin the idea with two crappy characters. I am of course talking about our Kyou and Kirino. It is hard to tell which one I despise more. I think it is Kirino... so I will leave her for the second part of this review.

I have Kyou because he is a whipped bastard. Then again I think he gets off on telling everyone about how much his sister hates him. Well really he gets off on telling the world how much the world hates him... if that makes any sense. This guy has not motivation to live. He just sort of goes with the flow. Why do you think his sister was able to beat him into this position? He basically does what he is told. Like a happy little dog. What is worse is he goes out of his way to help his sister.

I know that is kind of the premise. He is her confidant. She just wants someone to know who she can talk to about her issues. However, he takes the role a little too seriously. Going out of his way to protect the secret. I mean he suffers some pretty good beatings while trying to save her secret. There comes a point.. that is all I can really say. Personally I would have drawn the line at going to a midnight release for someone... but that is me. Then again with a sister like Kirino no wonder he is such a wuss.

First off she is a narcissist. The worst kind of narcissist. I say the worst kind because she is pretty much encouraged by everyone around her. Then again she kind of earns it. After all she is a star athlete, honor roll student, and a model. Everything just kind of goes her way. Since she is so super awesome and wonderful no one suspects a thing. She is a super girl. I mean there is no way to live the life she does. You could do it if you were living in the States, however, living that kind of life in Japan would drive someone insane. She would not be able to find time to sleep. There are only so many hours in the day. However, through the magic of anime she manages to pull it off. So I can like her for that. She has all the motivation her brother does not. Then there is her control freak attitude.

This becomes apparent when Kyou brings home his childhood friend to cook some lunch for him. Kirino goes out of her way to try to... I guess turn off this friend. What with the being a complete and total bitch to her. You know making her clean and cook and all that kind of stuff. To make matters worse she goes out of her way to leave out all of her brothers porn. The only thing worse is how she handles lack of control.

When Kirino loses control she becomes sick? Physically ill because she is met with resistance? Wow... I mean wow... I am really left speechless. I wonder if Kyou had not go and begged those producers not to alter her anime, if she would have died. That would have been awesome. Then again, how could they come out with a niche second season if she died?

I could go on and on about how much I hate the characters in this anime. There is only really one tolerable character in this anime. Hitomi, I liked her, she was sane and nice. A bit crazy, but in a good way. The rest of the cast... yeah... they make the anime hard to stomach. The tons of jokes are easy to forget behind the cast. If there was one reason to not watch this anime, it is because the cast is full of terrible characters. So many of these characters could have been... well human... I don't know... suffering through the characters and cliff hangers does make this hard to watch.
