Patterns For Situations and Patterns for Characters
Welcome to another place where I repeat myself for about.. I do not know a couple hundred words and write it off as a review. You know because I cannot really remember certain specifics of the show because I watched it so long ago. Well one thing I do remember about this show is the fact that there was a lot of repeating going on in it. Ah the patterns that were established, especially by Yamada. I mean yeah Yamada had one pattern throughout the show. Then there are all the other characters who spend their time repeating the same joke over and over again. However, at least that joke was a bit better than Yamada.
Uhh I have to say that kind of ruins the series for me... that god damn Yamada. I mean there is the one pattern that Yamada follows pretty much to the letter. The rules of the pattern are pretty simple. Yamada concocts a plan to get laid. Yamada does what she thinks needs to happen to get laid. Then Yamada freaks out and screws everything up and blames everyone but herself for the issue that occurred... hmmm sounds kind of like me.... ANYWAY, this pattern just keeps on going through out the anime. Even worse it makes you feel bad for Takashi. I mean he actually tries to be a genuinely romantic person and Yamada gets mad at him and screws everything up. I guess that is the joke of Yamada.
You know god forbid an anime have a small cast that just centers around a few people. Since this is a high school anime we need to make sure we have lots of characters yes? Well while we are it lets put all our time into designing the characters and no time into actually making them an interesting part of the story. I guess that this is the usual anime pattern, still that does not mean I have to like it. The only thing that changed the jokes at all was the context of the situation. Otherwise the jokes pretty much remained the same. Which drove me up the wall. Not that it really matters, after all since it is a female lead all that matters is you get sexy shots of the female lead right? I personally hated Miharu the worst of them all.
Her joke was the saddest joke becasue of the fact that she had a strong sense of what was right and what was wrong. She was a genuinely decent person... except for the fact that her sense of justice told her that she had to take Yamada's side... no matter how fucked up Yamada actually was. You could see her inner conflict, yet for some reason she decided that she had to stand by her sociopath for a friend. You know the one who just wanted to be pumped and then she would move onto the next one. Oh yeah then there was the unnecessary thing that came later on, Yamada's rival.
You know for an anime that centers around a girl just trying to get laid there is sure a lot of unneeded stuff. Like Yamada's rival in hotness Kyouko. Why exactly do we need another sociopath hot chick in the anime who is trying to take Yamada's position as the best example of a hot girl in the school? I mean geez that is all she was there to do. I mean what the fuck, I guess rivals are needed in anime... still why was she needed again. I mean rivals in other anime often times inspire the hero to become better. Not get into a near violent confrontation in an effort to oppose Yamada on just about everything. I mean that was another huge waste of time in this anime. There could have been so much other stuff to do an so many other weird situations that Yamada created. Instead we have to focus on the rivarly.
I guess that is why, like most romantic comedy anime, the anime centers around all the major holidays and school events. Which confuses me to no end. I mean you are telling me that Takashi just sat around and did nothing and lived his life normally, and still thought Yamada was interested in him when she would come back a couple months later to cash in on losing her virginity to this poor sap? I mean geez he had the hot willing girl across the street and two families who were basically doing everything but providing the birth control for these kids. Uhhh that drives me insane about anime sometimes. I understand that holiday's are big events... but geez what the fuck.. why do we have to wast so many episodes on a period of time that spans maybe a few days?
So yeah I guess I could come up with a few more flaws in the anime than I realized. I mean the anime is funny, but as you can see it is not really anything special and it is nothing that you are going to miss out. To be honest, this anime would be better as a hentai. Instead of having the innocent school girl trying to lose her virginity. They should have the innocent school girl accomplishing her goal... you know and we get to watch or something. At least then the anime would have more than one use. Plus it could go on forever then... well I guess we get what we paid for and not so innocent school girl who is still innocent because it is morally wrong for people to have sex.... yeah... typical romantic anime.
