To The Extreme... All of them
The major problem with this anime is that there are too many extremes. If you are not on one extreme you are on another. When I say Extremes I really mean it too. I mean the main star is.. well god and his companions... are not so much. Then there is the extreme vagueness of the entire series. Most of the time I am not really even sure what is going on other than a few moments where there is an extreme amount of information. Then we list along again with the explosions caused by the main character.
I think that is probably the worst extreme this anime has. Our wonderful male lead, Izayoi, is.. well invincible. Yeah I know there are parts in the anime where he might be a cut or something, but over all no one can harm him outside of... well no one. He is.. well an unstoppable force that you do not mess with because... he is unstoppable. It is not just that, but he also has a genius level intellect. If there is any information to be had, he will have it. No matter how random, obscure, or distanced from his culture. He is the one who answers all the questions, comes up with all the plans, and saves the day every time. There is no one but him who can do anything. Yeah Asuka and You help out a little and even fight their own battles. However, at the end of the day Izayoi is the one who flies in and fixes anything that might go wrong.
Then things become extremely Vague. I mean to the point of where I am not sure what is going on most episodes. The concept of the little garden is poorly explained. As well as the fact that the gift games are kind of glossed over. What about Kurousagi, what role does she play in all of this. I mean why is a ref helping out another community and recruiting for them. This anime really gives me the feeling that you need to have been reading the manga to really understand what is going on. Not that this is a killer thing in the anime. It just can get kind of annoying. One minute everything makes sense, then all of the sudden you get a twist that screws everything up. Not that the anime really cares about those kinds of details. Then there is the other extreme on the details.
When the author wants you to know something, by god you spend at least a quarter, if not half of the episode getting an explanation. When it came time to learn, boy did you learn. Of course there was a ton of theory and stuff that came out of this whole thing. However, at the end of the day. Really even though they explain stuff... you do not really get to know anything about the situation. Even then there are times when there are clear pauses in the action and you are forced to listen to some short explanation.
All in all, the show itself is not bad. It is very different from what you would expect from most anime. There are plenty of molds broken in this anime. However, the way this anime bounces around makes the anime hard to watch at times. There are plenty of times when the anime could just as easily taken a few more episodes to explain everything. The series could have made a few more mortals in the series as well, but I guess that is what makes the series enjoyable and easy to produce right?
