So going into this series I was a little skeptical. Given the usual path online series take... Well yeah with the game going offline and affecting the real world. Not to mention all of the crappy characters. This series was a breath of fresh air. Mainly because it did not have any of that stuff I mentioned above. The story was a solid idea right from the get go

Instead of a bunch of kids slowly becoming shut-ins/NEETs you have a large group of people who are contained against their will. Plus you add the idea of these people can also die if they die in the game. This was the start of a great series.

So with the plot all nice and ironed out. Yo have the entire series ahead of you to just make stuff up. Really this is one of the few series where you can have a seemingly random set of episodes that lead up to some kind of climax. After all, it takes time to level up to the right level so that you can take on bosses and survive. There are many things that can happen in that time. Hell I know from playing an online game a lot that you can get distracted for hours and accomplish nothing but gaining a lot of levels. It is a really nice feature of online gaming. Plus when you cut back into the main story, it is not a sudden shift.

I think that was my favorite part of this series. The fact that all of the extra side stories that occurred were not forced into the main story. When I think about it there was really only one time when the side story took a dive in the awkward area. However, it is always odd when you can give kids the power to Marry and..... Well I think they can have cybersex too. I guess this just goes to show you how some things are a bad idea.

Another interesting point that the show had. There were lessons to be learned about the online world. You know stuff like not being a girl if you are a male. The fact that the creator of the game was smart enough to know that guys acting like girls was enough to scramble anyone's brain. Well I will say that even I was scarred by this horrible insight. I mean of all the creepy things. My head on the body of my ideal sexual partner.... Yeah I am not sure how I feel about that.

Last of all I like how the first arch ends. You know it takes a lot of guts to do one of two things. Either the author admitted to himself that the story was going no where or the author ran out of ideas. I mean given how long it takes to level up after 30 levels in most MMOs... Well you cannot always skip ahead months and years. So there comes a time when all good things must come to an end. Plus the author was able to wrap up the series with a nice bow. The author managed to show the true motives of the villain and end the series with nothing left undone. So overall the arch was well written and well played out.

So all in all this is a great series to watch. Whether you like the plot, the progression, or just the lessons learned. You cannot go wrong with this series. At least I hope I managed to convey that message. This is one of my experimental reviews. You know writing when I have no real motivation to do so, and doing so on a mobile device.
