So this is one of those ideas that looks really good on paper. Lets take the younger characters from the Fate/Stay universe and give them their own omake series. We will take the loli that everyone loves and make her into a magical girl and we can include almost everyone from the previous series in this anime. This is going to be a fantastic idea right? Too bad much like many things that look good on paper this one is kind of a bust. The dark nature of the show and the light nature of the genre that they are trying to portray this anime as really do not mix well at all.

Lets face facts here the Fate series is known for being really REALLY dark. At least that is how I feel about Fate/Stay night, I cannot speak for Zero. Well the problem is that light-hearted obviousness does not really blend in well into this series. I mean they were spot on with the darkness. The author clearly knew how to write the intense despair inducing fights that no one wants to be a part of. That part was great. THe problem comes with the magical girl side of things.

This is where the anime really fails, you have a genre where people are supposed to be happy and goofy and all that kind of stuff. However, the degree of slice of life and happy-go-lucky innocent school girl action was not properly mixed. I mean it is really hard to go from this life or death struggle, to watching Illya practically rape a maid. I mean who thought that was a good idea? There are plenty of animes out there where they have the magical girl thing do well with the dark nature, but this is just not one of them.

It is fine to have comedy and aspects of a particular genre in a dark series. However, like I said this series tries to take two very different kinds of animes and slam them together and hope that it works out. SAdly it will never actually happen. I mean you just cannot go from super silly slice of life happy-go-lucky cute innocent girls. Back to fighting for your life, it looks like you might die kind of scenarios. As much as I hate to repeat myself, that kind of thing just doesn't work. No matter how hard you try you are going to be stuck fighting with the huge contrast. I guess that is what happens when you do something for the novelty.

I really kind of hate that but this is really just something for the novelty of having certain characters have a million different over-sexualized costumes. The problem that I have is you need to keep it a novelty. Give the main character something goofy to fight and do. Even make the whole anime a big joke. There are plenty of animes out there that are pretty much omakes with favorite characters pursing new-found professions. Some of them are even good, but this one just cannot cut i for some reason.

I guess this anime wastes every bit of potential that it could possibly have. I mean really what the fuck is going on here. There are so many things that the anime could have done better to make it work out better than it did. Too bad the anime decides to squander all that good stuff on nothing but trying to make the best out of two. IT is just really sad because this anime has more than most omake animes have, a story. It was such a simple story but it worked out so very nicely with the overall idea of the anime. Then it gets wasted by having girls who just hit puberty dancing around in sexy costumes pretending to be serious. At least in Hentai the sexiness serves a point and the costumes do not stay on for long. Oh well, it was a nice try to I am pretty sure all the freaky fans who want to write Illya geting gangbanged by all the males in her life into stories will make sure there is a second season. Which is.. I guess a sad thing when I think about it. However, these freaky perverts are among the most loyal of all fans. I mean I can say I watched this anime, but I cannot say that I would actually buy it if it ever came out on VHS... or DVD or Blu-Ray.
