Following the Recipe
So to be honest I really liked the idea behind this series when I first watched it. Maybe because I share the main character's profession, but not his obsession for work. Anyway, the anime starts out strong, and then drags on a bit. It is your run of the mill generic formulaic anime. I am not sure what the formula is called. I call it the "Summon" formula, because it involves someone getting summoned to a new world, being gifted with super powers, being is gifted with infinite females, and becoming a legend. Oh yeah, and the person summoned is your average person who is well pathetic. You know, not many friends, no romantic concerns, overall what most would dub to be a loser. So let us start off with the first part of the formula.
At least with the being summoned part Satou technically earned his super powers. I can at least give points for creativity in that regard. He did not show up and magically become a super bad ass he had to figure out how to use the skills then he was given his powers. So yeah, at least they tried to be creative. Then again gifting him with a god like power right from the get go is still kind of being super powered.
Next we can run off to the god like abilities. For Satou his life is viewed through an MMO interface with gives he basically god like powers. He has access to the entire worlds wealth of knowledge, maps, inventory, all kinds of stuff you name it and he will have it. It allows him to basically appear to know everything despite is kind of weak story that he is just a merchant from somewhere far away. It gets kind of boring having him use his analytical abilities combined with all the super powers of his interface to do pretty much everything. Then again this is the genre we are in. Now onto step three.
Like normal this guy seems to have trouble actually meeting well other males. He sees one male and then is swarmed with nothing but females. Nothing but females who want to jump his bones... even the children which is a little strange. Everything that appears for them is just one fetish after another. We have cat girl, dog girl, lizard girl, short girl, shy girl, and artificial girl. They all travel the land together and just be a happy family. Which is really kind of strange, but I guess there is nothing that is too strange with a person who has well dressed slaves of whom he does not even treat like slaves but whatever. Those are just the females in the current party. There is at least one more who will be joining the fray here soon. Which is tedious and annoying for me but you know that is just how the story has to go sometimes. We need to make sure we have the one guy who cannot be driven insane by females dragging them around.
The we get to the last part, the legend part. I have to say that this anime is ramping up a bit better. Satou is not very well-known. Normally by the end of the anime he would be legendary friend to the kings of the world and stuff even if there was a planned second season. Still, it is kind of annoying watching him have a solution for everything and not just you know losing. I get that he is smart, but would it kill them to have him do something that causes a village to be burned down or something? Watching him always win when he is so over-powered gets boring after the third time.
So yeah, this is just another generic anime where some guy who is nothing in his current life gets the chance to be something in his next life. It will hit all the major points that the anime needs to in order to make sure this anime is as generic and easy to consume, as well as generate merchandise. Not that the anime does not have any unique points to it, but it is not very unique at the end of the day. It can fall into another one of these long title anime where... well nothing really happens it is just some guy being surrounded by females who constantly speak in a way that can be easily misinterpreted by people to make the protagonist look like a bit of a loser. Oh well, I guess that is just how things work out in this series.
