Another With Wasted Potential
I hate it when this happens to anime. You have anime with such wonderful potential. Such great things can happen in it. There is a good setting, decent plot, characters and all that stuff. You can over look the fact that all the chicks have the same body type and dress in almost nothing regardless of the weather. Sadly in this anime you get about half-way through and all of the sudden the show turns to crap. I mean I guess I understand what was going on in the anime. Alka was trying to figure out what to do. I mean it is not like she was already good at what she did and was already doing just fine. No they had to go off and ruin her half way through the series.
I guess when you want to make a point about revenge or emotions or something you have to make this happen. That does not mean I am going to enjoy it or anything. Seriously, why did Alka have to go from being second only to Jin to being more helpless than the little girl she saved? I mean geez, why does she have to think so much? She had it all, when she was on her revenge quest she managed to survive, feed herself, shelter herself, protect herself. However once you hit halfway through the series it is like she just sort of forgets what is going on and suddenly because a helpless bum who can only sit there and cry about how bad things are. Then there is the fact that the series plays out more as the "adventures of Alka" than Alka's revenge.
I guess that comes with how Alka was raised. She is kind of a blank slate, so she figures she will just walk around and eventually, some how, she will get her revenge. I guess the author likes to tie it up as she has a huge bounty on her head and people will take note to that, but still why does she have to be so blank and lost the entire time? You would think that she might have some kind of intelligence gathering ability. You know, to go with her Jedi-like sword ability. No she does not get anything like that. She is a ruthless unstoppable killing machine, but she cannot seem to figure out which way is left. Well regardless I guess the only thing better than a hero who has only one skill is a hero who has a million flaws to go with her one skill. Still if they had not made episode 13 I would not have been so harsh on the series.
I was enjoying the series, it was fun and interesting and had stuff going on. Then they had the whole fall things, which made sense for how the series ended. Then they wasted 20 minutes of my life with this bull. At least they did not do what most anime does when they want a beach episode. You know that thing that a lot of anime does where they make up some reason why all the top fetish swimsuits are suddenly in this world that does not have the time to think up such things? However, that does not make it any less of girls gone wild, with big weapons. Then there is the fact that some how the little girl can talk to the locals. That confused me as well... I mean what happened here? Was the author black-mailed into writing this drivel? They have the female cast running around in seashells for the majority of the episode. Then to add insult to injury they throw Alka in it. What the hell is this crap? I mean she just discovered human emotion. Now all the sudden she is on a quest to make sure she can get laid? I mean did they really have to put her in this episode? They did not even do it right. I mean if you are going to do something like that. Why not have animal tribe number three dressing her up in some seashells as well? I mean geez at least be through.
So all in all this anime has a lot of potential with everything that is going on. However, like a lot of anime, it manages to crap itself about half way through. Whether it be nerfing the crap out of the once badass star or wasting time on a random beach episode that is just there in a vain attempt to have fan service.. that is for some reason required. You have another series that was really good that just turned out average because sometimes things look better on paper than they actually do in practice. I hate it when things look better on paper.
