Crunchyroll and Funimation Fusion
Okay so yeah I have not been the best with this whole writing thing. Certain Americans really sap the life out of me as I get tired of the same old 4 year routine. Anyway, I have almost confirmed that I have watched at least the majority of shows so patience I will have something up soon. anyway I want to kind of talk about the new Crunchyroll Funimation alliance that has happened over the past couple of months. Because well I am not 100% sure how I feel about it anymore.
So I guess I love it because it is a huge boon for Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll gets a nice big library boost and that means more people will likely sign up for it. So yay I like that part of the deal it always sucks when a larger, less good, streamer has the rights to all the good stuff. However, now I am thinking that Crunchyroll is becoming the official subs network while Funimation takes on the role of the dubs network. Not that I have really looked but that seems to be what has happend to Funimation.
I actually cannot find the subtitled versions of shows that were out just last season. Which is kind of annoying when you are in the mood for something dark and violent and you cannot seem to get past episode 2. I also noticed that on the shared simulcasts that Crunchyroll is about 3 to 5 episodes ahead of funimation because Funimation ist rying out this whole new Simualdub thing. Which I guess I can give them a round of applause for trying.. but I am not sure how economical it is. Then again I guess they have outsourced all their translating work to Crunchyroll so... hmm hard to say what I think.
So why do I like this kind of thing, well it keeps all my anime in one place. Of all the new season anime that is out there if I can find it on Funimation, I can find it on Crunchyroll. Which is nice you do not normally get stuff like that these days. I always hated having to go between Crunchyroll and funimation for all the shows. That reminds me I should check out Daisuki sometime today. Anyway, that is nice in the sense that I do not have to worry about exclusives as much. However, it really sucks in the sense that I can no longer count on funimation for FFXIV grinding nights and catching up on anime.
Right now their dubbing process seems to be extremely slow. Well from what I have seen and it is rather annoying to have to deal with. Sure I love having 13 episodes in English to catch up on while do my daily MMO grinds, but at the same time I do not like having to wait twice as long to get them. Hmm well maybe that is just my imagination I guess that they have only really announced one or two as "Simualdubs" the rest just seem to be dubbed as they can get around to it.
I guess my main concern is that this will bankrupt Funimation as this cannot be cheap for them. As much as I hate to admit it they are one of the few groups out there producing as much of the physical anime as I can get my hands on and it would be a terrible thing if I lost that. Hmm well I guess we will just see, I mean they could not have been paying their translators that much. Which lets me bask in the fact that Crunchyroll really seems to benefit from this over all.
And I am happy to support both of them as they slowly kill themselves with this new pace. Well as Funimation does I think Crunchyroll will be just fine as they have been handling the whole streaming thing since forever ago. So yeah it is nothing that I guess really needed to be spoken about but you know it is always good to try and figure this stuff out. At least this was not as scary as when the Hulu parent company tried to buy the controlling interest in the company. Now if I could just make it so my computer never logs out I would be golden. Anyway, keep watching the anime and supporting this experiment because it can literally go anyway and we do not need to have streaming anime go back to the pirates because we were too cheap to buy it.
