NDK 2012 Day One
So this year is off to an interesting start for me. This is the first year I was a lazy bastard with everything involving this convention. Mainly being my cosplay. Which has been dubbed Kaito Beta, by me... for no good reason. Mainly because I cut a few corners in getting it ready. So that was how I began NDK this year. I spent the day running around gathering the last items I needed to put together my costume. Despite all the frays and stuff that are everywhere. Well I think it came out pretty good. A little tight in the arms because I am terrible at sewing sleeves, but overall good. So I was able to put my ass over to NDK at a new record late time 17:00
Where I am going to do some bitching about the size. You know there was a time when NDK was cute and small and sexy. That was about 8 years ago... well I guess it was 5 years ago as well.. maybe I am not sure. Anyway, when you spend an hour in the pre-reg line just to get your pass.. yeah life sucks. Which is what I did today. I spent an hour wandering around the hotel thanks to that line. NDK has outgrown itself these past few years. That has really pissed me off. I mean now all the staff people do is run around and tell you to move all the way to the wall. Which is good, not like in years past where lines would just clot up the halls. However, it is still annoying because sometimes there is no room to go. Anyway I digress, I know the layout of the hotel we are at pretty well, but I still hate how much NDK needs a bigger Venue.
Onto Panels for day one. I went to a few of these. Is it just me or did the last years seem pretty heavy on the Q & A and worthless fan stuff? I think that they were, maybe, I did drink a lot so I cannot remember much. Anyway, so far I am pleased with the a rare showing of diversity in the panels. They no longer seem like desperate attempts to pander the masses of fan people out there. Of course I may be speaking too soon as it is only Friday... Saturday... Whatever.. you know what I mean.
So far so good for the convention. I find that Day one rarely disappoint me though. Which is a good thing. Even if I have the happiness from not being at work going for me and the happiness of having a costume to look like an idiot in. Ah my poor costume and sucking. Anyway, so far so good. Hopefully today I will get a good look at the dealer room and stuff. I need that look. The time has finally come to burn through a bunch of cash.
