Do I Like Dubs More Now?
I am not sure if I have covered this topic yet, but I am starting to enjoy dubs more. Maybe it is because I have REALLY low standards. I mean I cannot tell when people are bad actors... so... that makes things a bit harder. However, I also think that it is a context thing for me as well. I have been watching fan subs for years with all the wonderful context that they bring left in tact. So I have a lot more.. shall we say cultural.. enlightenment?
I think that is something that most Americans lack. Not that you could not absorb certian things from english speaking anime... but.. at the same time I think that a lot of dub companies rip out a lot of the Japanese culture side of things. Well maybe in the past anyway. Knowing more about the normal things in another country really helps make an anime more enjoyable in your native language
I also think it is because I understand more of the charater archtypes as well. That is one thing I like about anime, is that instead of making unquie characters each time. The japanese have a traditional set of qualities that characters follow. Once you figure out what those are the character actions and comments are a great deal more funny and make a gread deal more sense. So that really helps as well.
Then again maybe I just have low standards and am easily entertained. I watch movies with people I know, and they will go on and on about the terrible acting. Most of the time I just shurg my shoulders of indifference because I cannot tell the acting sucked. I guess ignorance is bliss right?
