The Novelty Acts of Fall 2011
I guess it is time for another installment of what anime to watch this season. I guess I should get these out long before everyone has a chance to form their own opinions about the animes in question. Either way here are some of my neutral picks. These are the animes that are at least tolerable because I can think of some kind of novelty to throw at them. So lets start off with Mashiroiro Symphony.
The novelty of this one is its dating sim feeling. Really I am just wondering how things will work out. Will they take the Yosuga no Sora route and have a lot of mini blocks all crammed into 13 episodes. Or will they take a more traditional harem route. You know where all the girls fight of the main guy character. Plus this one seems to have a hint of tragedy to it. So that is another thing that makes it worth watching. After all, there is so few animes that are emotionally tragic. Most are just violently and bluntly tragic. Then again maybe I am just feeling this in my pseudo-woman parts.
Next lets talk about Cube X Cursed X Curious. The novelty in this one is my confusion as to what exactly is going on. Aside from the obvious harem atmosphere. There is a lot of stuff that is not explained. For instance, what is up with Fear? Who are these knight people are are trying to kill her? Why does Fear appear to wear the same pair of panties every day? Really, what the fuck is going on? >_> Seriously, I am not really sure what is going on. We go from Fear shaking a tv because her favorite show stops playing to Fear killing a bunch of people. There are plenty of predictable parts to it. However, all anime follows some kind of formula so that is no reason to not at least give this one a chance.
Cube X Cursed X Curious and Horizon in the Middle of No Where share the WTF novelty. Horizon in the Middle of No Where makes no sense either. However, it has the second novelty of being RPGesk. Lots of characters with different classes beating the hell out of each other. If anything I want to watch this so I can figure out what the hell is going on. Once you get past the huge tits and the weird spandex that everyone wears. There seems to be a hint of some kind of point to this anime.
Last, there is Majikoi ~ Oh! Samurai Girls!. This one has a real novel concept. Take the harem formula. Factor in all the girls having libidos bigger than a guy, and there you have it. Really I just watch this one because I want to see how Yamato is going to survive this anime as a virgin. Plus since all the girls are super powerful warriors, and that is all they have ever been. They are all socially stupid. So they say and do some of the most random crap. Which also makes this anime hilarious. Another novelty that makes me laugh is how fighting is randomly forced into the anime. Seriously, there has not been any real martial arts for at least two episodes. I mean you could remove that whole aspect and this anime could stand on its own. Which I am not sure if that is sad or not. Either way this is definitely my top pick for novelty animes.
So there you have it. These are the animes that are watchable. However, if you decide to skip them. You are not really missing anything. Maybe a few really funny jokes, or some awesome costumes. Otherwise, these animes are the ones you find in the bargin bin a year after they were released. No shame in admitting it. Buying them still helps the industry right?
