So I finished watching this anime a couple of... well weeks ago, and... well it is hard to say but I am kind of having a hard time coming up with the bad of this series. I mean yeah there are a few bads, the main one being the fact that there were too many god characters. By god characters I mean too many characters were immortalish or super strong or both.
Like take Shinigami-sama, he was around 800 years old, and a legendary warrior. How exactly does he survive through the generations? I mean there is all this talk of death-scythes and how long Shinigami-sama has lived as well as his experiences fighting the witches. However, there is virtually no mention of the past Technicians or the past weapons. All we know is that Shinigami-sama has decided to make a school dedicated to raising powerful death-scythes. I guess lack of explanation is another thing that really annoys me.
Of all the various plot twists and turns and sects and sides, there is very little explanation as to how these things came to be. I mean all that is really explained is what Shibusen was built to do. As well as how someone becomes a Kinshin and why they are dangerous. Then out of no where they hit you with this cult of witches. I think that was just so they could introduce Eureka. As well as to give some danger to the witches that did not involve them just being sociopaths. Then there is the lack of explanation as to how one becomes a weapon or a technician?
Seriously, of all the important things to explain that should have been one of them. How exactly does someone become a weapon. Seriously is it something you choose to do? Is it something you are born to do? Then what about Technicians what separates them from weapons? Can anyone become a technician? Where do they get this small police force? I mean then they have something like Maka who is technically both. I mean yeah her mom was a technician and her father a weapon. How come she cannot use her weapon abilities? Why can't she be a weapon? Or even better yet, what becomes of Technicians after they get too old or their weapons become death-scythes? I mean Shinigami-sama summoned all the death-scythes from around the globe. What about all the technicians? I mean there has to be a certain level of bad assery involved with being a technician. Why are they all just left alone? Finally there are magically appearing and disappearing characters.
Take the team of Kilik, Ox, and ... well I do not know her name because she was so insignificant in the show that her name was hardly every spoke. Then we have the werewolf guy who is prominently featured for a few episodes then falls off the radar until around the end. At which point he does nothing. He just sort of sits around and says "Yeah I think Medusa is dead". Then they have characters like Excalibur. Of all the characters who needed to remain hidden he was the biggest one. I mean it is fun making goofy characters. But it is like they just wanted to have random fillers. I mean I thought his little episodes were funny. However, they were poorly placed. Always padding a good cliff-hanger for a week. I mean they give you hope that you will never see him again and then BAM he is back. Gah he just needed to leave.
So I guess this series has some pretty serious faults. I just needed to thing about them a little bit. not that htis series is a bad series. Oh no I recommend this series to anyone. But just be aware that these things will make the series kind of hard to watch.
