Make Sure To Follow The Formula
So on the whole I cannot decide if this series is good or bad so lets just focus on the reasons why this is a bad series and is really not something to watch. I mean there are plenty of things to choose from. You know like nudity, the lemming main character, the overall teenage angst, the random super violence... where to start. I guess I should start off with the first thing I noticed which was my quota for boobs had been filled by episode one.
That is one thing you will see a ton of in this series, boobs, and people clearly having sex but not in a hentai way. Meaning they are all basically stills, and you cannot see any of the sex bits. I mean you get all the way through the the first episode and you see a place where everyone is just walking around naked or in underwear or whatever. It is annoying to be honest. Yes it can be a plot device, but then right out of the gate the plot device is worthless because such hedonism is not enough to get the demons going. Which was another really confusing thing.. you know the whole idea of the devilman.
So there are other "Devilmen" in the world, but there is no real coherent reason as to why some people win and others lose out and become straight up demons. Akira had that whole compassion thing going for him, but the other two... what was their bit? It would seem like anger would be something that gets in the way. Still they gloss over it as a battle of wills and well that barely makes sense because Akira does not strike me as that kind of gut. Which makes his lemming nature even worse.
Seriously Akira seems to have no ability to think for himself until the end of the series. He is an accomplice to all of the crap Ryou pulls through out the series and then in the last sprint of the series he finally grows some kind of backbone and learns how to use his own brain and judge things and make his own decisions. I mean he could not have figured out what was going on was not something that he would agree with at all? Nope Ryou shows up shoots a gun and Akira is his little minion for the entire series which is pretty boring. I guess that is why there was random super violence
Keep in mind the gore is not something that happens very often. You get a good chunk at the beginning then it kind of dies off until things start to get boring and they cannot find any reason to show boobs off anymore, then it comes back and gets all ritualistic and weird. I mean geez was there any more substance to this story other than someone wanting a throw back to the days of demon gore? I mean really you can see the waves as they come plain as day.
I guess the only thing that was done correctly was the fact that the waves were a bit random at times. Sometimes there was violence before boobs and other times there was boobs before violence and then it all gets wrapped up into the big pseudo intellectual ending like we always get once someone starts talking about god.
Yup the end makes really no sense it is just the world gets to start over and there is some kind of emotional thing between Akira and Ryou and then god rains down on the planet and no one knows what happens and everything goes to black. I guess that means that we are not going to have any kind of sequel or something like that. I guess it is possible we do not actually see the people die, just some neat shiny lights and the assumption that ti was god wiping out all life on earth. Still these days anyone can survive anything if the money is there... so.. yup
So there is a pretty good list of reasons why this anime will bore you. Granted if I was 14 or 15 again I would be all over the first couple of episodes of this anime for obvious reason, but overall why you look at it as a work it seems to just be an attempt to ride the coat tails of the original series which was apparently really good.
