You Would Think This Would Not Work
You know it is rare that we come across an anime that is actually fairly original. I mean really really rare that anything like that can happen. This particular anime has a very original plot not to mention a very original story despite having that requirement of being slapstick and funny. I mean there is the plot, an exiled demon king who is trying to survive in exile. There is the story about how the politics of his world are stalking him and how no one believes that he might be authentic. Then there is plenty of obnoxious humor, like the boob complex of a certain female lead.
I think that has to be the best part of this anime. How our good friend Emi looks at more boobs than anyone else. I guess that is why I am happy I am a guy, we do not have to parade our cocks around and see exactly where we fall behind. I think that is one of the very few repeated jokes that never really got old. Emi would talk about boobs and the guys would wonder what her problem was. It is such a wonderful thing to see, and hilarious because Emi always looked like an idiot. Which was a nice change from her usual paranoid self.
That is an interesting character growth point that Emi had as well. I mean here she is someone who just hates this demon king because she was conditioned to be that way. Sadly, even she starts to believe that she is paranoid as certain politics start to follow her back to this peaceful world that is in no real danger. Makes me think of the story of Jon of Arc. I think that is the funny part about this anime how the Heroine is more the main character than the actual main character.
Really good old Maou lives a pretty hum drum life. It is no more interesting than my life or your life. He is pretty sure of himself so he really has no real room to grow as a character. He is a pretty well fleshed-out character. That is why you need to have Emi without her the anime would have not been interesting. Since she seemed to be at the front of every little bit of trouble that came Maou's way. Without Emi... well this anime would have just been a generic romantic comedy with a twist.
To be honest I am not sure if demons from other worlds coming to earth is a very original story line. However, demons coming to earth and living as an impoverished worm of society, that is original. I think the best part about this is how he lives a pretty generic life. You get that old solider kind of feel from him. Someone who is tired of what he was doing and just wants to live a peaceful life. Not that anyone could live that kind of life with the people who surrounded him. I mean really, the only people who actually cared about taking over the word were all the different people around him. I mean that is kind of odd when you get down to it. However, that is what gives this anime flavor, at least in my opinion.
Well regardless of all this stuff I just kind of pulled out of my ass. I think this anime is a good anime to pick up. Yeah it moves kind of fast at times and that makes the anime a bit annoying. However, I am pretty sure this is a niche manga anyway. Even still there is a ton of room to grow and plenty more to be written about the exiled demon who just cannot live in peaceful exile. So yeah pick this anime up and watch it. I mean right now there are only 13 episodes and I am not sure it will get a season two. No matter how much I want a season two.
