So I guess the main reason to watch this anime is because of the faint glimmer of originality that is in it. I am talking about the fact that in this case while the girls appear to be magical, they are in fact the result of science. I think that is the one key thing that really makes this anime much better than other magical girl animes. I have watch plenty of magical girl animes where the girls appear to be tech based. However, this is the first one where the powers of the main character are pretty much 100% man made. That is not something you get to see everyday.

The other part that I like about this anime is it is not as destiny based. Really it was just the old man mopping up his own mess when he created the perpetual energy source that wiped out a planet. While the anime does follow the tradition of all the magical girls being buddies. It is original in the sense that the fellow magical girls are actually chosen by the leader. In most of these animes there is some kind of destiny based reaction to the magical powers. In the end all the girls really did was ask if they could join the fight, and the leader said "Yeah sure".

I guess I also liked the destructive nature of the anime as well. In most magical girl animes, the people who get caught in the crossfire are magically unharmed or the fights all take place outside of the city. That was the fun part about this anime. The army threw plenty of people at the bad guys before the girls got to do anything. Not often you slowly watch a city lose its population as the girls beat the holy living crap out of the bad guys. I mean how often does stuff like that happen. I guess that is the newer trend these days though.

The last thing that has some originality to it is the finisher move. Not many magical girl animes have an extremely limited super move like that one. Normally the girls have plenty of chances to just throw away their powers at the bad guy. However, this time around all the girls had to fuse with the leader one at a time. So while it did get old watching them kill the bad guys in the same way all the time. It was at least something new, plus who does not like an underwear based second transformation.

So overall this anime is not bad. For all of its cookie cutter nature it has just enough originality to make it bearable. Which is kind of rare these days in the world of magical girls, since most everything has been done. So if anything, it is a nice change o pace from the usual magical girl stuff where they are all destiny bound and nothing can be explained to them because things are just that awesome. Well anyway, that is my two cents on this anime. Take it or leave it.
