Lack of Balance Kind of Sucks
The main reason to hate this anime is because of the flakes in it. I am of course talking about the main stars, Eita and Masuzu. There is also the fact that it follows and obnoxious set of characters who do not evolve or change in anyway shape or form. Well minus the main stars, they grow and develop, everyone else falls into the same loops and same traps that they always do. It is rather sad, the only thing they share in common is the ability to be manipulated.
That gets really annoying during the entire anime. Any characters who are not Eita or Masuzu are basically manipulated non-stop. I literally mean non-stop, not that it is not funny to watch them get obviously tricked and then disappointed as Masuzu tries to wreck their innocent souls with misery and darkness. However, not once do any of the girls call bullshit on Masuzu. I mean really come on, I know each of you were tricked in some way at least two times. How could you not see a pattern. I mean every anime has its baka group, but even they come to realizations when it is not funny to be stupid. However, I guess that is what happens when you are just a side lump.
Again everyone who was not Eita or Masuzu basically stayed the same through the entire anime. They were just there to fill a generic character slot. As a result, whenever their purpose had been filled, they faded into the background for a few episodes only to reappear to take yet another beating by the main characters. It just becomes this endless cycle of emptiness. I mean at least show that there is something out there that makes these characters worth more than a background spot.
That is the problem, a lot of the extras were given too much time for place holders. You know the people who fill in the blanks and stuff like that. Anime characters always have a few A class extras who get lines and their own artwork, but those characters play a background role that is used on occasion. They are not featured throughout the entire anime and seen doing all sorts of stupid stuff. They appear, spout out their lines, and then vanish, end of story. Not in this anime, nope we had the S class extras who were there pretending to be major players until the very end. Even if neither of them were actually big time players. At least they are not flakes like the main characters.
This is my biggest problem with the anime. I like the idea, two people who are fed up with "love" teaming up to fake it so they can be left alone, well Masuzu anyway. They what do they do, they have to change and grow and start to doubt their beliefs. That is the part of this anime that sickens me the most. This whole changing and coming to realize that things are not so bad. I mean I can let them off a little because they are kids, but had they not been in high school this would have been a deal breaker for me. I mean really, all they had to do was hold the line. Nothing big nothing hard, and for the most part Masuzu did. She was better than Eita who.. well about halfway through had his feelings and heart all in a knot. It was just sickening and pathetic to watch. I mean come on Eita at least take the time to jack off here and there to get the frustrations out. Then again you could be a dick to Masuzu too.. that would have been more fun. Either way you had to start to like love and attention because boobies were pressed against you.
SO I guess if I had to say something about this anime it is unbalanced in how it works. You have a bunch of S class extras who are there the entire time yet never evolve or change. They just stay the same and allow a few new voice actresses to get some work they need so they can one day voice the big roles. Then you have the main characters, who start off great with conviction and confidence. Then they evolve into this whole stream of doubt and being a wuss who thinks that maybe he is wrong. Regardless, that happens in animes that have a great premise to begin with. Well whatever, I guess that is just how things go sometimes.
