Too Many Sharp Turns
hile pretty and having plenty of females around for fan service. This anime felt the need to just jerk you around a bunch. We start off with a cause of saving a club. Then we randomly jump to the dark underbelly of one part of the population. Then we jump back to the election. Then we jump into the dark side of the school. Then we jump back for about 20 seconds. Then jump into the crazy bitch side of the story. All the while the male lead just seems to be dropping those females like flies.
I honestly think that this is one anime where none of the introduced and named females did not have a crush on the main character. I mean yeah they tried to jazz it up as Yaoi fangirls all wanting him to hump the gay guy, but... yeah it was not that. I mean long before that every girl seemed to think he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Among a large cast like that it is a bit unusual to see someone who has such unanimous approval that he is not disliked by anyone.. Which really got annoying in the end of the series. Yeah there was the whole sabatog thing that happened, but that is different than just plain old fashion someone not liking you. Especially with such a large cast.
That is another thing that got kind of annoying. The cast in this anime is huge. I mean maybe this is a huge visual novel, but still. For an anime there were WAY WAY WAY too many characters for it to be productive. I think this is the only anime that I have watched in a while where you have every single female archetype. Literally, every single one that I can think of.. obnoxious girls, inventor girl, cat girl, teacher, uhh strict girl, childhood friend, childhood friend 2.... Glasses girl... Yeah there are a lot of different female characters that just play into their roles all too well. Which makes things hard to keep track of and quite frankly makes them annoying. To really ruin in this anime you have to add in crappy writing.
I am well aware that there is always some kind of struggle within the animes themselves. Where the main charcater has to do something other than try and bang the girls. However, a good writer would write the main story into the game as well. Which is one of the problems with dating sims. You have to the chance to alter the universe in so many ways. Even if the overlying story is the same. I mean if they had not spent so much time on sexual frustration and stuff like that. Maybe, just maybe this anime would have been good. However, they spend so much time building up the election and all that crap. That they have to spend the very end getting to the gritty dark part of the anime where everything just kind of goes to shit. Of course leaving out the main character and his love interest.
I guess what I am saying is that you need to choose a route. You cannot just couple a bunch of events together and call it a story if you make sure to hit the main points. That is one of the fun things about dating sims. What changes based on when you do or talk about something. Who you talk too, when you talk to them, who you date, who you turn against you, all that kind of stuff is what makes a dating sim lots of fun to play. However, when you just try and throw together an anime based on a dating sim you are left with garbage.
So yeah this one is a hard one to watch. Just because of the fact that it fissures and covers all of the important ground at the very end. The story starts out good. Then you just have to sit there and watch nothing go on until the very end. THat is no way to write an anime. I am fine with foreshadowing and all that crap. However, there is no reason to foreshadow. Then finish off with that part at the end. It makes no sense. You have to break things up write the whole story into the entire anime. That is one thing that I do hate about these dating sim animes. Playing every route and squeezing in the over arching setting.
