Thou Shalt Have No Other Medaka
I have to say that there is WAY too much emphasis on how few Elite people there are in the world in this anime. Really when you get down to it there are only two gods in this world... well really there is only one god. That god is Medaka. She is the only person in this anime who seems capable of doing anything. I mean literally, even the small tasks she assigns to the student council only seem to have lots of quality after Medaka intervenes. There is such a thing as a person having too much power.
While this is a common theme in anime. Most of the time the protagonist has to build his or her way up. Medaka is there and has passed there. Leaving her really no room to grow. I know that is kind of the point of this whole anime. Medaka is some kind of Saint, not really pure, but a saint none the less. No one can match her. Again a common theme in anime. However, the huge level progression between her and the rest of the planet is too big.
Especially when her feats start to become super human. I am all for someone being stronger than the other person. However, when characters start doing things that require super strength and super speed. Well that just ruins the anime. You have to sit there and watch as she kicks ass all over the place or peforms tons of actions in a split second. It just gets old, plus they make it seem like she did nothing. Even worse is when they try and show consequences... when there really are none. Had anyone else done what Medaka did, they would be out-of-order for a while.
That makes it even harder to watch. You see the student council who is supposed to be composed of a few elite students. However, compared to Medaka, even in things they accel at, they are nothing in her eyes. The entire anime is spent showing how incredibly pathetic they are compared to her. All of Medaka's tasks are worshipped and seen as the pinnacle of perfection. While everyone elses gets a C for effort. Only if Medaka interviens can those tasks get any higher than a C.
Really that is the only problem with this anime. The spotlight shines too brightly on Medaka. You only really see her, and when she is not around the rest of the action seems dull and boring. No one seems to do anything but just wait around for Medaka to show up. Which really takes away from the anime at times. When Medaka is not there it seems like there is nothing really going on.
