Cute Has Its Place and It is Not Here
guess the thing that really bites about this anime is the main character. I mean yeah Chaika is cute and all but the problem with cute characters is they tend to get annoying. For starters, I understand that Chaika's broken speech is supposed to be something that makes her more endearing and lovable. However, it is ruined by the fact that everyone else has 100% comprehension of what she is saying. I wish I could just throw out nouns, verbs and the occasional adjective and have everyone know exactly what I was talking about. I would never make a full sentence again. Next we have the whole conspiracy someone is lying to us about what actually happened in the last war part of the anime. I got the whole lying thing after another Chaika appeared. However, from that point on we just kind of prod at the point that something is not right.
Do not get me wrong, I bet this is an epically long manga with lots of twists and turns. That is why I have to wait a whole... damn 5 months for the next part of this show. However, when you are going to cram a show into 13 episodes it might serve to move the show along. Especially if the sales do not do well and we have to make up for the lack of money coming in with the next 13 episodes. Of course not enough time will pass so the Chaika could actually develop some human traits.
That is the strangest thing about this anime. You meet the other Chaikas and they are all eloquent, they speak in full sentences, and even better they act like humans. It feels like the main character in the show was supposed to be the cute pet some man always wanted. I mean we could not have had at least one other Chaika speak in broken cute sentences? I am pretty sure that they all had different heights and measurements too... I guess that will be explained later on though. Then again when you can buy people to be your brains why should you do anything but look cute.
I get the whole innocence thing about Chaika, but still.. why do Toru and Akari have to do all the thinking? Toru knows what questions to ask and even appears to have his curiosity piqued when he notices something strange in one episode. Chaika just would not be the cute moe princess with a fabulous out fit for cosplaying if she had any thoughts in her head. The fact that she constantly falls for any lie that is told to her and is constantly screwing things up is only made worse by the number of times she saves the day. I just do not get why there are those times when she shows some kind of intelligence. Then again I guess every retarded female lead has to do something right. Otherwise she would be just a waste.
You know like the rivals or pursuers or whatever Gillette is in the show. Talk about a useless bunch, it seems like they are the side story more than the ones trying to pursue Chaika. First off they almost never appear at the same time in the series. Which can be a good thing. We all know how boring it gets to see Team Rocket all the time. However, at the same time, how is it possible for them to be so far behind in the race. I mean, they have more knowledge than Chaika at their disposal. Chaika is lead by vision quests, how is it that they did not encounter that group more than maybe once or twice. Really that group only seems to take up screen time that could be used furthering the whole conspiracy around Chaikia.
I guess I have to say that maybe if it was one of the other Chaikas that were encountered the anime would be much better. They appeared to be more than the defective models. Then again I guess if they dress sexy they cannot be cute.. I don't know. Add that to the useless villains and you have this anime wrapped up with a nice bow. I am not sure really what else I can say. Maybe wait until this series has been cancelled and you can go out and watch it straight through.
