So at first site this anime appears to be just another haremish anime. You have a lame lead and all the huge booby, mini-skirt, and uniformed females around him. Plus you also have to make sure there are plenty of other girls around as well all from the past or present one of the two. However, this anime manages to redeem itself by having an incredibly original setting. I mean really, you would not think that a magical modern world would be all that interesting, but it is enough to at least make this anime worth watching.

First there is the past of our main male character, Raul Chaser. A kid who spent his whole life trying to become a hero. In this world you can get your hero license and run around fighting things for a living. Well that is until the whole reason for the hero program is shut down. Now you have someone with no skills for a peaceful world having to make ends meet. Then you have the female lead, Fino Bloodstone. The girl who is supposed to be the heir to the demon throne. Only she decided that it is not something she wants to do so she sneaks into the human world to... well be a human. It is one of those cute tales of tragic individuals who got the raw end of a deal. Even better is the fact that they do not focus on all the other characters.

Normally in anime like this the characters all get to have a huge tragic past or something like that. Not in this anime, everyone just seems to be there. Instead of wasting a bunch of time on the past you get a very clean simple past and we move on. After all, this is not an anime about who Raul or Fino was in the past. It is an anime about Raul, a sworn enemy of Fino... technically, watching her adapt to the human world. You know one of those anime where everything is not as it seems. Then you have the Fino side of things as she adapts to a world that she never knew existed. Plus she gets to have her own pet boy drag her around and take care of her while she doesn't think.

Then there is the setting, a world that runs on magic and as a result has created what we would call the modern world. To be honest that is probably one of the more interesting parts of this story. I mean the modern world is not all that interesting, it is how they mix fantasy and technology. It is the only book, anime, movie, whatever that I can think of where the two are so nicely meshed together. Most of the time the mix is extremely poor in the other stories. Generally the mix in the other stories is technology is for the uninitiated losers of the world and magic is so much cooler. In this world, you have magic playing the role that electricity would play in the real world. So magical items are not all that different from technology. You just fill your magic tank and you have TV and all that kind of stuff. That is something new and original, at least I enjoy the idea.

So yeah, if you are looking for an extremely original anime I would say this one should meet your requirements. After all, the anime doesn't waste a lot of time trying to give all the characters a story. It doesn't even take the time to care about the main stars pasts. Nope instead we focus on the here and now. It is kind of rare for an anime to actually want to develop characters and show actual human growth. Even in the more dramatic anime out there. True you have to put up with the usual cookie cutter archetypes of characters, but that is nothing new. So this anime is definitely something new and different and very much so worth checking out.
